Urgent Appeal from the Syrian Center for Drugs Control on the Unsafe Burning of Seized Narcotics in Populated Areas
The Syrian Center for Drugs Control (SCDC) expresses deep concern over a serious incident in the Kafr Sousa neighborhood of Damascus, where authorities seized over a million Captagon pills and large quantities of hashish linked to the ousted Syrian regime. In a reckless act, unqualified individuals burned these narcotics in a populated area without adhering to basic health or environmental standards.
Residents have reported distress over the toxic odors resulting from this random burning, which caused panic and raised fears of potential health risks. The harmful chemicals released during the process pose a direct threat to public health and the environment.
The SCDC urges the proper handling of seized drugs through internationally approved methods, supervised by experts and conducted away from residential areas to protect lives and preserve environmental safety.
We also call on the media to play a vital role in raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and their impact on society. The media’s contribution is crucial in fostering a more informed and responsible community.
The SCDC reaffirms the need for coordinated national and media efforts to combat the dangers of drugs and safeguard society from their devastating effects.
